This book, written by Taufik Adnan Amal and Samsu Rizal Panggabean, attempts to explore various demands for and application of Islamic law in a number of Muslim countries, the tensions and problems that arise as a result of these demands and applications – including methodological problems – and the possibilities for overcoming them.
The focus is on the issue of implementing Islamic law in Aceh and several other areas in Indonesia, as well as a number of Muslim countries in Africa and Asia – Egypt, Sudan and Nigeria for Africa, as well as Pakistan, Afghanistan and Malaysia for Asia.
The selection of these areas was carried out purposively to show the breadth of the dimensions of the problem without having to compromise the depth of the dimensions of the problem being discussed.Through this book, the two authors show how the problem of implementing Islamic law is not as simple as we imagine.
Through a comparison of several countries, one can clearly see the complexity of the problems faced by supporters of Islamic law enforcement and policy makers.
So far, in Indonesia there has not been a book that is comprehensive and objective enough about the application of Islamic law.
